Navigating the Primavera suite of applications isn’t always straight forward so HPS can help you look at whether Primavera P6 EPPM or Primavera P6 PPM is right for you. Primavera P6 Professional (PPM)’s key features are project planning and scheduling, resource and cost management and reporting. It’s bundled apps are Methodology Manager, P6 Visualiser and P6 Job Services. Its data base is Oracle, SQL and SQLite. It can be installed as a standalone for small to medium sized companies.
P6 EPPM has many of the same key features with the addition of portfolio management, dashboards and collaborations and is more for medium to large companies and cannot be installed as a standalone. It is dependent on Java runtime but has different bundled apps; P6 Professional for EPPM, P6 Job Services, Publication services and many more optional add- on apps.
From a cost perspective, Primavera P6 PPM and EPPM are not too dissimilar in price and they schedule projects in exactly the same manner. But is the scale that really makes the difference. If you have just one or two projects to schedule and work for a small to midsize company, Primavera P6 Professional is for you but if you are currently managing 30 or more projects, P6 EPPM is more likely to be the solution you need to explore.
